Your Heart is a Rhythm

The title of today's post comes from a song that's on the new Cat Power record, Sun. The track is called 'Manhattan' and it's a new favourite of mine. These eye earrings are a new addition to my ever growing jewelry collection and they're from Oasap. Also, it's sadly getting colder and I'm in dire need of some cozy new knits. I need to go on a thrifting adventure centered around fall knits ASAP because I'm sure a lot of my fellow thrifters would agree that they just don't make sweaters like they used to!

Fall Be Kind & Milanoo Review

 Wearing: blazer and jeans-thrifted; top-H&M; sneakers-C/O Milanoo; necklaces-gifts

Back in July, I fell in love with wedge sneakers a la Isabel Marant F/W 2012-2013 (check out my post, Wedge Sneakers: 3 Different Ways, for more styling tips) and I knew I needed to get my hands on a pair for fall. Most of my readers are probably familiar with online retailer, Milanoo, by now, who were kind enough to let me pick out an item for review, once again. keeping in mind that fall was approaching, I chose these black and white wedge sneakers. Not surprisingly, they are incredibly comfortable and garner a lot of compliments, too!

JW Anderson for Topshop

At the beginning of September, Topshop launched yet another spectacular collaboration with a British designer. The quirky, yet wearable JW Anderson for Topshop collection is full of the same types of crazy prints you might expect to see going down a JW Anderson runway at LFW and includes ipad cases, note pads and even a sharpie marker(!?)! The collection is available now on the Topshop website and will be proceeded by another collaboration that we can expect to see sometime in early 2013.

For more JW Anderson goodness, check out his Spring 2013 runway show:

As I mentioned in yesterday's rant/post, I love pants, especially of the geometric-print variety! I found these at H&M for $20 and I had to have them. Also, these hologram sunnies were a gift from my friends at Giant Vintage!

My new found love (for pants)

When my love of fashion first began (let's just assume it was around age 12) I was under the impression that in order to be "stylish" you had to wear mainly skirts and dresses (I think a lot of people were under the same impression at the tender age of 12). I certainly have more dresses and skirts (waaaaaay more) than I do pants and trousers, but recently I've come to a conclusion. What's that conclusion you may ask? Well, to put it in a nutshell, I've fallen madly and deeply in love with my sworn enemy-you guessed it! Its pants!
I'm not 100% sure where my new found affection for pants has come from, but I've narrowed it down to three main sources. Read on if you'd like to find out what those 3 sources are!

1. The Prada F/W 2012-2013 RTW collection has shown me that pants can be fun! I'm a sucker for geometric prints and bold, clashing colours as well as over the top embellishment and that's exactly what this collection entails.  Miuccia's take on the suit; a menswear staple is nothing short of perfection.

2. Leandra Medine (AKA The Man Repeller) is one of my favourite bloggers and one of my biggest sources of sartorial inspiration. Much like her personality, her style is quirky and fresh. She's not afraid to mix prints or pair two things together that might not seem quite right. She styles pants in a way that makes them interesting and the complete opposite of boring.

3. The sixties! Icons like George Harrison (my favourite Beatle), a more androgynous Twiggy and classic Jane Birkin all contribute to my love of pants!

I started my second week of classes today. I am loving it so far! The teachers are amazing and some of my home work so far has been to shop online and find tear sheets...pretty awesome. Also, I took the subway by myself for the first time yesterday! I felt so accomplished!

I wore this outfit yesterday to Fashion's Night Out here in Toronto. My friend Katharine (who's starting a blog, by the way!) and I took the subway to Yorkdale mall to experience Toronto's first FNO! Anyway, it was fun, but we couldn't help but wish we'd gone to the Eaton Centre instead! I got approximately a bajillion compliments on my peplum top, which I am considering marrying at the moment to tell you the truth. it is fabulous! I hope everyone is doing well! Happy Friday, darlings!

P.S. I've survived my first week of classes in college...I feel like I deserve a medal/a nap (the second one sounds a heck of a lot more likely...).

Today was the first day of classes, which is hilarious because I don't have classes on Tuesdays, so technically MY first day of classes is tomorrow! I feel like I'm starting over from the beginning AKA kindergarten, even though college feels like a humungous high school to me...
